Read on for an optional Bolivian adventure which you could add on to the end of your trip to Peru, to discover a vast and fascinating culture on the Bolivian high plateau with its immense landscapes.

DESAGUADERO / LA PAZ / SUCRE / POTOSÍ / UYUNI / LA PAZ / CUSCO

Arrival at the border with Bolivia, where your guide will help you get through customs as smoothly and quickly as possible. We will then make our way to Tiwanaku, the most important archaeological site in Bolivia, located south of Lake Titicaca. Tiwanaku is the capital of a civilization considered to have lasted from the 10th century BC into the twelfth century after JC, whose area of influence extends from Argentina to Peru. This culture is full of mysteries, one of which being its fascinating architectural prowess We will then stroll through the pyramids under the gaze of giant monoliths. 

Later on, we will have lunch at a local restaurant on the way back to La Paz. 

Free time in the evening. Overnight at the hotel.

Transfer to the airport to catch the flight to Sucre.

Arrival and transfer to the city.

Night at the hotel. 

We will depart at 09:00 for a guided tour of the colonial city, declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. We will discover the Recoleta convent and its four courtyards, with its millennial cedar, the ethnographic museum of textiles (ASUR), the House of Liberty (closed on Sunday afternoon and on Monday), and the monastery of San Felipe Nery.

Free time for lunch and dinner. Overnight stay at the hotel.

In the morning, private transfer to Potosí with your guide.

Free time for both lunch and dinner. 

Today we will have the chance to visit the Casa de la Moneda (closed Monday and Sunday after noon), where Spaniards made the crown coins up until the nineteenth century. Then, visit of Potosí’s charming historical center.

Overnight stay at the hotel.

Today we will visit one of the Cerro Rico mines in Potosí. But first up, we will visit the mine’s market. 

We will then access one of the miners’ cooperatives which still exploit silver by hand, where we will have the chance to interact with the miners and talk about their hard work.

Free time for lunch and dinner. 

In the afternoon we will leave in a private vehicle and make our way over to the city of Uyuni.

Overnight stay at the hotel. 

Departure from the hotel at 09:00 in a private 4×4 for the Uyuni Salt Flats (3650 m.a.s.l.), the largest salt desert in the world.

On the way, we will make a stop to visit a salt mine in Colchani and the salt hotel, followed by a stop ar the heart of the salt flats on the island of Incahuasi, of volcanic origin and covered with stromatolites and giant cacti (stromatolites are fossilized bacterial colonies, i.e. the first traces of life on Earth).

Lunch in the middle of the Salt Flats.

Return journey to Uyuni in the afternoon. If our schedule allows it, we will take a moment to visit the famous train cemetery.

Morning transfer to the airport to arrive at La Paz.

Arrival and transfer to the city.

Our first scheduled visit will be the Bolivian administrative capital: located at the bottom of a hollow, where the city extends over more than 1000m of unevenness, we will go from viewpoint to viewpoint in order to better understand its topography and then visit museums in the colonial street of Jaén. Later on, we will take a cable car to enjoy even more stunning views over the city that boasts the Illimani as its background. 

Free time for lunch and dinner. 

Excursion to the Moon Valley.  

The cathedral of La Paz dates back to the nineteenth century and is located in the Plaza Murillo, an impressive construction with its large proportions and great originality of its stained glass, which depict some unexpected scenes. Then we will take a walk through the witches’ market, where you can find an array of ingredients used in traditional Andean remedies to influence the Aymara spirits, as well as offerings for mother earth (Pachamama).
