HUANTAR CHAVÍN

We will cross the southern part of the Santa River valley, passing through the typical towns of Recuay, Ticapampa and Catac, from where we will ascend towards the Cordillera Blanca. We will visit the Querococha lagoon (3,980 m.) and ascend to the Cahuish pass (4,550 m.), from where we will descend to the Conchucos alley, and finally arrive to the town of Chavín de Huantar (3,180 meters) where we will visit the Ceremonial Center with its temples, squares, intricate interior galleries for ceremonial purposes, used also for the conduction of water. In the Old Temple we will visit the gallery of the “Lanzón”, a stone idol 4.50 m. high, with human representations and attributes of jaguars, snakes, and eagles. We will also see their well-known “Cabezas Clavas” After lunch we will visit the museum of Chavín where there are magnificent samples of ceramics and litho sculpture of Chavín, emphasizing the “Obelisco Tello”, the rock heads pinned to the wall, stelas, as well as the sea shells used as horns. Return to Huaraz and overnight stay at the hotel.
