CALLEJÓN DE HUAYLAS/ CARHUAZ/ YUNGAY/ LLANGANÚCO LAGOON

Starting from Huaraz, we will cross the “Callejón de Huaylas”, located between the Blanca and Negra mountain ranges, admiring its most important snow-capped mountains, such as Huascarán (6,768 m.), the highest mountain in Peru, Hualcan (6,162 m.), Copa (6,188 masl), Chopicallqui (6,350 m.) and Huandoy (6,356 m.). We will also visit the town of Carhuaz and visit its typical market. In Yungay, we will discover the city which was buried by an avalanche in 1970. We will then begin the ascent towards the Cordillera Blanca, to the Llanganúco ravine whilst also stopping by Orcococha and Chinacocha, with their turquoise blue waters with varied high Andean flora, appreciating the snow-capped mountains that surround them. We will walk along the Chinacocha trail that borders the lagoon and then continue along the Maria Josefa trail, which runs through the lush poliphelis forests on the banks of the Llanganúco river, where our guide will fill you in on our stunningly Andean surroundings. We will then return to Yungay for lunch.

Return to Huaraz.
