TRADITIONAL AREQUIPA

•  Duration: 2 DAYS

When we speak of Traditional Arequipa, a colorful fusion of traditions comes to life. To follow this route is to learn a lot about the local and regional reality such as its food, its hybrid architecture, its products and its conservation.

DAY 1. COUNTRYSIDE TOUR / CITY TOUR

Our countryside visit begins at 8am, by private transportation. First stop, the Sachaca viewpoint, which offers breathtaking views over the three volcanoes surrounding the city, next to the fields. Then we will continue on to the Founder’s Mansion, a beautiful colonial structure in the middle of green fields and finally over to the beautiful colonial mill of Sabandia, which was built in 1621 and is still in operation.

An interesting tour awaits us in the afternoon, when you’ll be exploring Monastery of Santa Catalina, a famous landmark and local gem. Then we will go on to the Central Plaza, famous for its impressive cathedral and surrounding Spanish-era archways, and finally we will finish with the museum of the Mummy Juanita. This route fuses the pre-Hispanic with the Hispanic, boasting Arequipa’s nature as a heritage city. Overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 2. VOLCANIC ROCK QUARRIES/ AREQUIPA COOKING CLASSES

Our day will begin at 7am with a visit of the volcanic rock quarries where we will get a unique perspective on the city’s monuments, as well as witness the quarriers working the stone with their bare hands. What the volcanoes left behind, man turns into art with his hands.

Then we will go on to the market of San Camilo to see the great variety of local products and to choose ingredients for our upcoming cooking class, where you’ll learn to whip up a local dish. A beautiful (and delicious) experience awaits. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Includes: Transportation, official guide, hotel, tickets, second day lunch.
